There are multiple levels of this class. Level 1 is an interactive guided reading class for children reading at a K-1st grade level, meaning they are still working on many sight words from K-1, but need to continue practicing them. Older students can join if they read at this level. Age does not matter, reading level does. We will be working on phonics skills for K-1st grade, sight words, and fluency with leveled readers and multiple strategies. I will add skills as the class progresses at my discretion. In each class, we will have a different reading passage appropriate for the current students' levels. Some weeks it could feel like review for your child and some weeks it will be challenging because I love to scaffold to allow them to have exposure to texts slightly above their current level.

 

Our class routine will be to warm-up, learn/review a phonics skill with guided practice, read a challenge passage, then end with fluency practice. I will be reviewing grade-level sight words also.

 

Level 2 will be similar in routines but will focus on higher-order thinking skills, comprehension, and fluency. Our level 2 class routine will be to warm-up, learn/review a reading comprehension skill with guided practice, read a challenge passage, then end with fluency practice. We will add in sight words as needed depending on the needs of the students in the group.

 ***Students can take this class for multiple weeks or months because it is different each time. I differentiate learning so that each student gets what he or she needs. In this class, we will be learning literacy skills and will aim to provide a framework so that every student will end the course with a brighter spark for reading.

 

It will be ongoing which means your child can attend weekly or monthly. You can purchase classes individually or in a monthly package- I want this to be a flexible option for busy families!
